LEVERAGE YOUR GIFTS AND TALENTS TO STAY MOTIVATED

There’s a good chance that you have untapped potential and you may not even be aware of it. While most skills can be learned, most of us are given gifts that come easily and that we feel passionate about. Some gifts are innate; they come naturally. But you can learn skills that enhance these gifts and turn them into talents. For example, a musically gifted child may take years of piano or singing lessons to develop his or her talent. Many have gifts or talents never realized, nurtured or developed that could potentially evolve into unimaginable opportunities.

What Do You Love to Do?
One way to identify your gifts is to take the time to actually think about what it is you love to do, what sparks a passionate response deep inside. Journaling can be a great tool to help you find your interests, hidden gifts and talents. Writing helps you understand what you naturally gravitate toward and the patterns that emerge in your thoughts.

What Do Friends and Family Admire about You?
Another way to discover your gifts is to ask family and friends what they feel are your best qualities and talents—you may be surprised at what they say. Always be willing to try new things based on their response. Try those things you didn’t think were an option for you as well as those things you’ve always been too afraid to try. You may just discover something you enjoy and can become passionate about.

How Can You Develop Your Gifts?
Once you discover your gift, make a commitment to build that gift into a talent. If you tried art for the first time and enjoyed it, sign up for a community class so that you can advance and enhance your gift. You might try public speaking in front of a small group. If you do well, take a public speaking course or read books on the subject. If you have been told you have an eye for photography, invest in a good camera and educate yourself so that you can enjoy the gift on a whole new level.

It Starts with Your Mindset
Discovering your gifts and talents is reenergizing. Since the year is coming to a close, now is the perfect time to get to know yourself, your gifts and your goals. When you’re sitting down to go over your small business objectives for 2018, don’t forget to think about the person behind it all: you.

Follow these steps to get where you want to be:

1. Maintain a student’s mindset. To unlock your talents and reach your full potential, you can never stop learning. Embrace being a life-long learner and examine even the tough situations for an educational takeaway.

2. Be intentional with your focus and energy. In this day and age, distractions run rampant and it can feel difficult to catch a break from daily duties. But you control where you dedicate your mental energy. Focus on the positive. Tomorrow is another day.

3. Stop waiting for things to happen to you. Make them happen to you. Brainstorm a series of short-term goals that will help you accomplish your ultimate achievement, whatever that might be.

4. Celebrate what you have. Even through pushing yourself to develop your talents, it’s important to take a moment out of every day to celebrate the present. What is awesome about today? What feels just right in your small business and in your life? Make a note in your journal.

If you dedicate yourself to exploring your gifts and trying new things, you’ll far exceed your own expectations, both in and outside your professional life. Make this year the best that your home inspection business has seen yet.
